    Brief History:

Igbajo, as it implies, is “Agbajo Eniyan “  meaning “Assembly of people”. The town according to some records , cited by Ademola Fasiku was founded  around 300 AD.

In the book, “IGBAJO, CITADEL OF THE GRAVE”, Professor Tugbiyele claimed that Igbajo was first  founded by one one Esidale who has its’s origin from the Oduduwa’s ancestry , reported to be the migrant to the present site of Igbajo  from ile-ife, during the Oduduwa period .

As an adventurer of the Oduduwa prince  who failed to return to Ile-ife was declared missing by his father to Oduduwa.  Hence , the saying : “Esi dale l’ o ni Igbajo “ . Esindale’s foot-prints were soon retraced to Igbajo through Ifa-Oracle .

In addition , information has it that a group  of ten princes ( the Orangun of Ila , the             Oloyan of Oyan , the Alara of Aramoko, the Alaye of Efun Alaye , the Owa of Igbajo amongst others ), migrated to the present site of Igbajo . Later they departed to their different destinations leaving behind the ten sacred stones on the spot of their meeting. These ten stones are still in the land of Igbajo till date.

Meanwhile , Igbajo Polytechnic , from time immemorial  came into limelight as a result of the establishment of one of the secondary schools in Osun western Region of Nigeria  , Kiriji Memorial  College , Igbajo in 1952.

This great feat is contained in both publications of Late. Chief Oladipupo Oladitan , Professor Akande Tugbiyele and 100 years of Baptist Mission in Igbajo written by Deacon Ojo.  As cited by “ Ademola Fasiku “ in his second edition “ IGBAJO AND ITS PEOPLE”,  he affirmed that  Chief Oladitan  in his publication ,“ The Patriarch and the crown”,  that the Igbajo people built the Igbajo -Ikirun road, Igbajo -Iresi road, Igbajo -Koro road ,  all through communal efforts which they built schools for the education of their children , this was the unrelenting  thought of these peasants.

This also gave a pictorial representation of the establishment of Kiriji Memorial College in 1952, and the establishment of IGBAJO POLYTECHNIC IN 2005 as all hands were on deck towards the cause  as stated above.

THE FUTURE PROSPECT OF IGBAJO POLYTECHNIC

Having traced the historical settlement of Igbajo town , its people , we intend to inform  the general public  about the future prospect  (s) of Igbajo  town:

    1. QUARRY INDUSTRY: Igbajo ,is in no subordination to Abeokuta . It is blessed with precious stones , rocks , gravel etc where quarry industry thrives  for building and construction of various road projects.  For continuity, heavy capital is needed for construction , also a concerted effort  must be made by its people and the Government  of Osun state to bring it to  a reality.
    2. TOURISM: The Eleyinla Mountain, Obalara , Oluajo , Aruka and Oke Agere with the old ile Oyinbo needs to be rebuilt , Oku- Mewa at Ija -Oke should as a matter of urgency be developed into tourist centers amongst others .
    3. AGRICULTURE: Igbajo town and its surrounding lands falls within the fertile deciduous forests . The land is good for cultivation of crops . Also, co-operative farming should be encouraged.
    4. GENERATION OF ELECTRICITY: Igbajo has such an enviable electricity . Therefore, we as inhabitants of the land should be weary of careless handling of this project and pilfering of the electric cables and bulbs within the township   and other neighboring towns.
    5. DEVELOPMENT OF MULTIPURPOSE MARKETS: Kudus to the Boluwaduro Local Government Area in Igbajo, for initiating a 5 – day market at Iyanu-Iree along Ikirun road.  Therefore, every individual must rise to the cause of construction a multipurpose market for the community.
