  • IGBAJO POLYTECHNIC HOST CORP MEMBERS AS THEY SENSITIZE STUDENTS ON HIV/AIDS

    The first community owned institution (Igbajo Polytechnic) host a conglomerate of core-members (Boluwaduro Local government, Igbajo , Osun State) to sensitize students on HIV/AIDS at the school’s auditorium on 30th, May, 2019 at 11 am.

    Corp members from Boluwaduro Local government representing various cds groups such as : Anti- corruption cds groups, Road safety cds group, Reproductive Cds, Sustainable development goals , Editorial cds groups amongst others were present at the sensitization venue .

    Students of Igbajo Polytechnic were in high spirit to know their HIV/AIDS status.

    During the sensitization,Felix Olumide ( President: Reproductive health Cds group also known as P.E.T –“Peer Educators Trainers” ), Boluwaduro Local government area , Igbojo Osun State Nigeria, while enlightening the entire community and students of Igbajo Polytechnic on the spread of HIV/AIDS virus and the preventive measures to be adopted. In his statement , he said “ A person with HIV virus does not ultimately mean such a person can’t live a normal life, such a person with the virus is categorized under “ HIV T 1” , that is; the person can still be cured using anti- retroviral drugs regularly based on Doctors’ prescription, but once it graduates to “ HIV T2” , it means , such a virus has graduated into An incurable disease called AIDS.

    Sequel to the information above, he added that eighty percent (80%) of HIV/AIDS syndrome emanates from unprotected sex and (20%) twenty percent is from using unsterile sharp objects such as : blades, sterilized clippers etc.

    In his remarks , he added that “ABSTINENCE” is the best but par adventure an individual cant abstain from sex, it has become imperative for such an individual to protect himself by making use of condoms . He added that so far so good, none of the students tested in Igbajo Polytechnic were HIV Positive and he applauded Igbojo Polytechnic’s entire management for grooming the students in the right direction that will channel them for greatness in the nearest future. “In times immemorial, our fore fathers placed so much importance of having sex when you are married , but because of our over exposure to negative foreign contents like : pornography especially, through the media, this has affected our thinking and practice negatively ( cultural & media imperialism) , he said.”

    He (Felix Olumide ) explained further on ways an individual can be sure if he/ she is HIV Positive / Negative . He said that there are two lines on the BOFFER SOLUTION KIT and LANDSET KIT) used for collection of  blood for HIV testing, these lines are:“patient and control line”. In His detailed explanation, he said:

    1. If there is blood on the patient line and on the control line such a test is said to be positive.
    2. If there is blood on the control line and none at the patient line, such a test is said to be negative.
    3. If there is no blood on both lines , such a test is considered to be invalid.

    The signs and symptoms of HIV/AIDS includes : Swollen hands and feet, Nausea , frequent fever , mucus from the Virginal etc. HIV can be prevented at the early stage of infection using anti-retroviral drugs based on Doctors prescription, not sharing sharp objects belonging to someone else, not using other people’s towels or wearing their clothes because such persons are vulnerable to contact the virus through the sweat glands.

    Felix Olumide advised the students of Igbajo Polytechnic to keep learning , “ he who stops learning is old , he who continues learning is forever young, he quoted”. Also , the use of condoms should be adopted , rather abstinence from sex is the best . The sensitization exercise ended at 12: noon and everyone were departed to their various destinations.
