The Spokesman,   fire Brigadier( Mr. Omotoso) intimated students on the things to be known about Fire and its safety.  Fire extinguisher is an instrument used to extinguish any form of fire.

Fire means  F: Feel my presence around you always

I: Inquire to know the risk

R: Reason and think after effect

E: Educate your family, staff and students to be conscious of the risk.

He remarked that : Fire cannot occur without the three element: Oxygen, fuel and heat. Fire is a rapid combination of two or more combustible materials resulting from heat and fuel.

Further more, he classified fire into the following:

    • Class A Fire: Involves three burning materials such as: Paper, table etc as it may result in ignorance from people or disappointment from electricity agencies.
    • Class B Fire: Includes liquid and flammables such as petroleum, kerosene. In such cases, water should be used to extinguish such liquid burning material.
    • Class C Fire: This category of fire outbreak results from electricity. Once you notice any occurrence of fire outbreak, go straight to the meter and switch all light sources. Don’t overweight your sockets.
    • Class D Fire: Gas fire outbreak is the most dangerous of all the earlier mentioned fire outbreak. Gas has the ability to spread  rapidly alongside oxygen and there could be a fire outbreak in that environment. When using gas cylinders to cook, it is pertinent to move avoid receiving calls.

“ Some months ago in Ikirun,  there was a recorded case of a woman  who instructed  her children to warm their foods, then she dashed out, these children had a grandma who by ignorance does not know how to operate the gas cooker. The Children ignited the gas filled cylinder and forgot to turn it off, few minutes later the whole vicinity was choked up with flames. The Children alarmed the grandma Fire!!!, but there was a communication bridge between them, so she could not understand the situation at the moment, it was a an Hausa man who was wandering around that discovered the fire outbreak and rescued the victims from the fire outbreak”, he narrated.

Meanwhile, he (Mr. Omotoso) enumerated the two types of Fire extinguishers under-listed below:

    1. Dry Chemical Powder (DCP) used for fighting flammables.
    2. CO2 (Carbon-dioxide ) used for fighting fire relating to metal or gas. This type of fire extinguishers is commonly used in our respective homes or offices.
